Minnesota at Phoenix
Sunday 6pm eastern

UNDER 172

Sunday is the last day of the regular season and Minnesota wrapped up first place a long time ago while Phoenix just lost at Seattle and ended up in third place in the west. The teams won't risk injury and be happy to end the season and move on to the playoffs.

Phoenix has had a history of sitting out Diana Taurasi on the final day before the playoffs. Penny Taylor (16 ppg) did not play in the Seattle game so she should be rested for the playoffs. Here are LHG results in recent years:

2010 Seattle 151 points (under 172.5)
2009 LA 159 (under 175)
2008 no playoffs
2007 Sac 160 (under 171)

Phoenix has played unders in 9 of their last 10 while the Lynx have played unders in 8 of 10.

Minnesota does have some backups that could score but I expect the 4th quarter will be low scoring. Backups like Wright, Adair, Houston and Hornbuckle should play. Hopefully, we don't see many points from Augustus, Whalen, Moore and Brunson.

Minn averaged 154 ppg this year while Phoenix was at 174. Why play a high scoring game today when you can save your energy for the playoffs?

I was surprised to see so many points. No defense was played as Minnesota shot 56% from the field and their backups played well. Phoenix shot 3's well as the teams combined to go 22/37 and only 3 foul shots were missed.

Ironically, the USA women's 3 vs. 3 team had to forfeit due to injuries. They played Italy 2 vs. 3 as two girls were injured.

Here is the writeup on the USA Basketball site:

The USA Basketball Girls 3x3 Team (7-2) will take home an honorary bronze medal after an impressive effort on day three in Rimini, Italy, while the USA Boys 3x3 Team (7-5) finished in eighth place after falling to Canada in its final game of the tournament.
Approximately one-and-a-half minutes into the USA Girls' semifinal game against Italy, the U.S. went down to two players after Rebecca Greenwell (Owensboro Catholic H.S. /Owensboro, Ky.) suffered a knee injury. The USA’s fourth player, Taya Reimer (Hamilton Southeastern H.S. /Fishers, Ind.), had been sidelined Friday by a sprained ankle. The game was delayed by about an hour and 30 minutes before Kaela Davis (Buford H.S./Suwanee, GA) and Linnae Harper (Whitney M. Young H.S./Chicago, Ill.) finished out the contest playing two-on-three. The duo battled Italy into overtime before succumbing by just two points 21-19. Davis finished with 14 points, while Harper added five.
“It was one of the most amazing games I’ve ever been a part of,” said Jamie Carey, USA Basketball Assistant Women’s National Team Director and girls team leader. “It was unbelievable to watch. This game is hard as it is, and then to play with two people, it was amazing to watch those two girls compete. It seemed like the entire gym was around our court watching the game. Kaela and Linnae couldn’t have done anything more, and Taya and Becca were just as into it cheering from the sideline. It was an amazing team moment, and I’m very proud of these players.”
Slated to play Japan in the bronze medal game, the USA forfeited due to injury and technically finished fourth, however, FIBA recognized the USA's effort and awarded the team honorary bronze medals.

Dr. T,

Got any WNBA playoff games coming up? Or INTERNATIONAL? Thanks my man!

WNBA playoffs start Th/Fri with 2 games each day. Eurobasket starts up again on Wednesday with the Quarterfinals. FIBA Asia starts Thursday and hope to see some lines for opening round games as I expect a few big blowouts. In 2009, Sri Lanka lost one game by 103 points in this tourney but they are not in the field.

I should have a play in the next few days.
